Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAAs) are highly skilled health professionals who work under the direction of licensed anesthesiologists to implement anesthesia care plans. CAAs practice in the anesthesia care team model in hospitals and surgical facilities across the United States.
To become a CAA you complete a master’s-level Anesthesiologist Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), then pass the NCCAA Certification Exam.
Find an accredited program.
NCCAA does not accredit or rank education programs. The Association of Anesthesiologist Assistant Education Programs (AAAEP) lists the AA programs, and the official directory of CAAHEP-accredited programs is searchable on the CAAHEP website.

The American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants (AAAA) is the professional association for CAAs and a good starting point for questions about the career, practice states and salaries. See our certification partners page.
